Jordan Hill scheduled for hip surgery on Wednesday
Jordan Hill met with Dr. Thomas Byrd in Nashville today, who determined the Los Angeles Lakers reserve big man will need surgery to repair his injured left hip.
The 25-year-old Jordan Hill sustained the hip injury during the Los Angeles Lakers’ 112-105 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Jan. 6. Los Angeles Lakers also took on other injuries during the game after forward Pau Gasol and center Dwight Howard exited with concussion and an aggravated shoulder injury, respectively.
After taking an initial MRI exam, Jordan Hill underwent further examination which determined the injury more serious than previously expected and liable for surgery. Reportedly some “loose bodies” in the hip and a torn labrum constitute to Jordan Hill’s injury.
Initial diagnosis projected Jordan Hill’s recovery period around six-months. But the Los Angeles Lakers will update on Jordan Hill’s latest recovery scheduled following the hip surgery on Wednesday.
Jordan Hill signed a two-year, approximately $7 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers during the offseason. Jordan Hill played 29 games this season, averaging 6.7 points and 5.7 rebounds in 15.8 minutes per game.
The third-year pro Jordan Hill missed the past eight games with the hip injury. During that span, the Los Angeles Lakers have been 2-6 as they struggled with piling injuries to their big men.
With Pau Gasol’s overlapping absence, the Los Angeles Lakers had Earl Clark starting at power forward during the past five games. Earl Clark had a surprising double-double game despite the loss against Toronto Raptors on Sunday and again showed some flashes of brilliance against the Chicago Bulls on Monday. In the last eight games, Earl Calrk has averaged 11.0 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 blocks. Still the Los Angeles Lakers miss sprightly miss Jordan Hills’ energy that was a key factor towards driving-up the team’s tempo.
Due to the Jordan Hill’s season-ending hip surgery, Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak has requested the league to a disabled player expectation. If their request is approved, the Los Angeles Lakers will gain an additional $1.78 million to $1.88 million cap space for trade scenarios or free agency.
The Los Angeles Lakers are currently on a six-game road slide after losing the last two games. The Los Angeles Lakers’ three-game road trip finishes with a matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.
