After recording one of their worst starts to a season, Liverpool are finally finding their stride in the Premier League. The English football giants are placed 10th on the Premier League table, but they are aiming for Champions League action once again.
Theoretically, Liverpool actually has a chance of qualifying for Europe as they are just four points away from a top four position. However, Liverpool’s dream of a Champions League berth could be broken by the increase in competition in the Premier League.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and captain Steven Gerrard have already declared that a top four finish is their priority. Liverpool’s in-form left wing player Jose Enrique believes all Liverpool needs to do is look up and fight for a Champions League spot.
Brendan Rodgers has finally managed to lead Liverpool in the top half of the table for the first time this season. Liverpool’s 3-2 victory over West Ham United has allowed the Reds to dream about Champions League once again, but it’s still a long and treacherous journey.
The next couple of games can provide Liverpool with the edge they so desperately need. Liverpool are scheduled to face Aston Villa and Fulham at Anfield before two successive trips to Stoke City and Queen Park Rangers. Liverpool will then host Sunderland at Anfield.
Therefore, Liverpool has a strong chance of grabbing 15 points from these five games. If the Reds are able to pull this off they might even see themselves in contention for the Premier League title.
In an interview to the Liverpool Echo the 26-year-old full back Jose Enrique explained how his team could move towards a top four finish.
“We have two games at home now and we'll try to win them both,” Jose Enrique said. “We're just four points behind the Champions League places, and we have a big chance to be there before January finishes.
“We have to take it step by step. We are close now to the top four. We have beaten good teams this season. The teams at the top have been losing a lot of games, so we have a chance.
“Then, if we can get some good players in the transfer window, maybe we can do something.”
Jose Enrique might be benched against Aston Villa on Saturday. The Spaniard was sidelined against West Ham United after picking up a hamstring injury in the first half.
“I am OK but I don't know if I'll be ready for the game,” Jose Enrique added. “I've had some treatment, and I hope I can be fit.”
Fortunately, Liverpool will have Luis Suarez back in their attack. The Uruguayan has been in phenomenal form for Liverpool this season. The 25-year-old striker has scored 10 goals in 15 Premier League appearances.
