Speculation about Cristiano Ronaldo returning to Manchester United is still in the air, but former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is confident about the Portuguese staying put at Bernabeu. Jose Mourinho insists Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at Real Madrid, although the opportunity to play for Manchester United has sparked interest.

Jose Mourinho, who is now managing Chelsea for the second time in his life, believes Manchester United have embarked on a fruitless campaign for Cristiano Ronaldo. The former Inter Milan manager claims he understands that the coveted Portuguese forward “loves Manchester United”, but he doesn’t feel like returning to his old home.

“I know Ronaldo loves Man United and I know he loves the Premier League, but I think he is going to stay [at Real],” Jose Mourinho said. “It's just a feeling, no contact, nothing just a feeling.”

Jose Mourinho finds it hard to believe that Manchester United will be able to convince Real Madrid into letting go Cristiano Ronaldo, since financially the Spanish club is much stronger than the Premier League champions.

Moreover, Real Madrid can offer Cristiano Ronaldo with the best contract. Therefore, Manchester United will need some magic to steal Real Madrid’s crown jewel.

“What I know is that Real Madrid is such a rich club they don't need to sell,” Jose Mourinho added. “It is such a rich club I think they can beat any offer a club can have on Ronaldo.”

Cristiano Ronaldo is currently on tour England for preseason activities with Real Madrid. The 28-year-old Portugal international played in a friendly against Bournemouth last Sunday. In a press conference after the game, the new Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo will be staying at Real Madrid this season.

“His future is at Real Madrid, there is no question about this,” Carlo Ancelotti said.

Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t come up with any statements regarding his return to Manchester United, although he has admitted that he is still in love with the club and sees himself playing for them in the future.
