Jose Mourinho to rest Real Madrid stars Ronaldo, Ozil, Alonso for upcoming threats
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho plans to rest his star players Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil, Sergio Ramos, Pepe and Xabi Alonso for the upcoming first leg of the Spanish Cup match against third division team Alcoyano. The former Inter Milan manager told reporters that he is saving his featured players for the upcoming battles in Champions League and La Liga.
“I will not play Pepe, neither Ramos or Ozil, Ronaldo or Xabi Alonso. I will use other first team players in accordance with the rules which state we must use at least seven first team members,” Jose Mourinho said.
Jose Mourinho announced that Real Madrid fans will finally get to see the new crop of Real Madrid players against Alcoyano on Wednesday night. The former Chelsea boss said that he will the 20-year-old Alex and the 17-year-old Jose Rodriguez an opportunity to start the game.
“I don't think it's going to be easy tomorrow (Wednesday) at a stadium where the opposition will be extremely motivated to play against a big team,” Jose Mourinho said. “If we can win, all the better but if we can come out of the match with a good result, that wouldn't be bad either.
“The objective is to get past this round and not commit the errors that Real Madrid made in the past,” Jose Mourinho added.
It might be worth reminding that Real Madrid suffered a shock defeat at the hands of fourth division Alcorcon in 2009. A confident Jose Mourinho went up against a side that was being managed by former Real Madrid manager Manuel Pellegrini.
Nonetheless, Jose Mourinho believes his youth side deserves first team appearances. The two-time Champions League winner told reporters that a batch of talented youngsters will break into Real Madrid’s first team in the next couple of years.
Jose Mourinho also praised the youth team coach Alberto Toril. Jose Mourinho reckons his young players will make an impressive impact against Alcoyano on Wednesday.
“Personally, I want to use players that can be useful to the first team and I don't want to use players who are on the fringes,” Jose Mourinho said.
“My relationship with Toril is normal and he has an autonomy that I respect. But a lot of the reserve team players play in a system that is completely different to the first team and I think they feel a bit penalized.”
