Nicolas Anelka’s troubled spell in China is set to end as former Chelsea international is set to play for Juventus for the rest of the season. A short term transfer deal has been agreed upon Shanghai Shenhua and Serie A leaders today.
The director general of Juventus, Giuseppe Marotta has informed Nicolas Anelka would undergo his medical test on Monday before the official confirmation of his signing. Giuseppe Marotta also revealed that Nicolas Anelka’s transfer was in fact a five-month load deal.
The loan deal coincides with the off-season in the Chinese Premier League, therefore Nicolas Anelka will return to Shanghai Shenhua for the new season. Nicolas Anelka joined Shanghai Shenhua last year as a player-coach after Chelsea refused to offer him an extension contract.
Since then former Chelsea teammate Didier Drogba has also joined Nicolas Anelka at the club. Chelsea’s midfield legend Frank Lampard is also rumored to be in the mix for a move to Shanghai Shenhua.
Juventus have still not made it clear whether they would like to make the move permanent at the end of the season. The most that’s come out is from Giuseppe Marotta, who claims Nicolas Anelka was signed because of an “emergency situation in attack”.
“Anelka? In July we made some targeted investments, but now we are in an emergency situation in attack, so we moved to fix those issues, even if it is not official yet,” Giuseppe Marotta said.
“It can be a good move for the short term, then at the end of the season we'll evaluate what must be done. He is filling a hole. It is a five-month contract with an option for the second season, if things go well.
“Anelka's arrival rules out any other transfers, because in this stage of the transfer window there are no other opportunities.
“He will put himself at the disposal of the squad and it'll be up to (manager) Antonio Conte to decide how to use him. After all, he is not in great physical condition considering he hasn't played for a month.”
In a career that spans from 1996 to the present date, Nicolas Anelka has played for 10 different clubs, which include Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.
During this period Nicolas Anelka has accumulated over £85 million. The 33-year-old forward has also scored 14 goals in 69 appearances for France.
