Kansas City Chiefs May Have The Worst Quarterback Depth Chart Ever
The Chiefs' Quarterback Depth Chart Is A Nightmare, Possibly The Worst In NFL History
READ MORE:
I'm not exactly the biggest Chiefs fan. I mean, I could care less about the team. But when I saw a blog post from The Legend of Cecilio Guante about the current quarterback depth chart for the Kansas City Chiefs, I nearly choked on my microwaved bean burrito.

This is your current Chiefs QB depth chart.

1. Tyler Thigpen
2. Ingle Martin IV
3. Quinn Gray

God is that ever scary. That's of course the result of original starter Brody Croyle being more fragile than Rex Grossman and his backup Damon Huard tearing ligaments in his thumb. Both guys are now out for the remainder of the year.

Anyway, here's what we know about Kansas City's three current healthy quarterbacks, besides the fact that they all suck.

1. Tyler Thigpen - A 7th round draft pick who went to vaunted Coastal Carolina where he dry humped a skeleton. In a start against the Falcons this year, he went went 14-36 for 128 yards with a touchdown and three picks. And he's your starter.

2. Ingle Martin - According to his career stats, he apparently kneeled down on two plays back in 2006 when he was with the Packers.

3. Quinn Gray - Probably will soon be the starter, seeing as he's managed to at least get into 11 NFL games.

But here's the worst thing. Between these three guys, they have a combined 4 starts in the NFL. But is this the worst NFL depth chart ever? In an effort to determine that, I took a look back to see if there was any group worse than this one. And no, I didn't go back to 1965, I just looked at recent depth charts of the past 10 years.

Here's who even comes close.

2001 Carolina Panthers
- They had Chris Weinke as their starter for the majority of the season and went a putrid 1-15. Weinke was, of course, awful. He threw 11 TDs to 19 INTs. But as bad as he was, there wasn't much reason to turn to his backups. They were Dameyune Craig and Matt Lytle. Craig threw 8 total passes in his career, and Lytle threw 30. Yikes.

1998 San Diego Chargers - This was Ryan Leaf's worst year by far. How bad was it? He threw 2 TDs and 15 INTs while completing 45% of his passes. Obviously, that was pretty bad. But what was worse was that he split time over the course of the season with Craig Whelihan, who himself threw 8 TDs to 19 INTs, all while completing 46% of his passes. So that's two quarterbacks who threw for 10 TDs, 34 INTs, with a combined completion percentage of essentially 46%. And here's the scary thing, there were no other QBs on this '98 squad. It was essentially Leaf and a Leaf clone. In fact, according to Pro Football Reference, Leaf and Whelihan's '98 seasons both made the 15 worst single seasons by a pro quarterback ever, which is nuts when you think about it. It's still a wonder how this team won 5 games during the season.

And that, my friends, is pretty much it. If Thigpen starts the rest of the season for the Chiefs, you could make an argument that the 2001 Panthers are right there with them in terms of top to bottom awfulness in terms of the QB depth chart. The 1998 Chargers, however, I think have to be marveled at just for their sheer incompetence. I always thought Ryan Leaf was awful, but good lord, Whelihan was pretty much just as bad, and only lasted two years in the NFL.

As of right now, the 2008 Chiefs are the runaway favorites for worst QB depth chart in recent memory. And in all honesty, I can't see that changing anytime soon.

I am an alumni of Coastal Carolina, and was a student when the Football program first began in Fall 2003. Tyler Thigpen was started as a freshman, the first year Coastal Carolina Football began.  In his 4 years at Coastal Carolina there was never a losing season, 3 Big South Titles, and 1 Div-1AA Playoff Appearance in 2006.  Not bad for a program in its first 4 years.  I take great offense with your comment. about Thigpen, " Who went to vaunted Coastal Carolina where he dry humped a skeleton." because what excatly does that mean?  Thigpen might be having a hard time learning an NFL Offense, but you should have done your homework with his success at Coastal Carolina because your comment above makes you look like a fool.

I use to love Herm Edwards but when he left a pretty good New York Jets team I had hoped he gets what he got coming to him and its obvious that he himself is very undecided on who should choose the Quarterback. In all fairness though, The Chiefs had been injury plagued for some time but the way the NFL is NOW, no one wants to be in Kansas City at anytime, no time soon.

I wish I could ask you to stop saying such things about Tyler, but he's going to have to earn some respect.  He's a great kid (guy now, I guess) - unless you ask the skeleton.

Here's hoping he can hang on for a few years to gain some of the experience he needs to be successful.  I think the potential is there, although we haven't seen it yet.

But, yeah, that depth chart has less depth than either of the political natoinal conventions - and that's scary.

Calm yourself; its just 100%'s poke at humor...read a few more articles and you'll quickly learn not to take any real offense to what he says.

As far as the meaning of "dry humping a skeleton", and you not getting it. Notice - its in blue, and a hyperlink...click; there's the visual explanation  - pretty cool, huh? And as far as the rest; yes, the guy did good - but I would argue its still Coastal Carolina...

Now; back to the Chiefs QB controversy () It's a pretty sad lookin list. As you stated, Gray will probably be the best shot of starting the rest of the year; but Thigpen will most likely be given more of an opportunity, because, let's face it, it can't get any worse right now.

Now, more than likely, my migraine will be coming earlier in the week just in preperation...and if ever a case for underage drinking being acceptable, I think I've earned it on Sunday. (btw, I still do have KC by 10...so I put most of the pain on myself).

I believe in the long run Thigpen will be more successful than.....David Klingler, Andre Ware, Charlie Ward....how many more Heisman winners crapped out in the NFL?

Hey I'd be happy happy if Thigpen made it. I'd love to see a 7th round pick do well. The problem is we all know how this works. When you're a 7th round draft pick, you have to come in and immediately produce, rather than a first round pick who can suck for a year or two (or in Eli Manning's case, 3+). The problem is, from what I've seen of Thigpen, he isn't going to get the chance to develop, because he's not producing instantly. That sounds oxymoronic, but hey, what did Tom Brady do? Came in and he won, which is why he hung on and progressed from there.

That said, we'll see what happens this weekend, and I wish him the best. Anyone is better than Ingle Martin IV. I also wish that skeleton the best too.

You put Inge Martin out there and there will no Inge Martin V. That IV will not mean the forth anymore, but what Inge will be hooked up to.

I remember reading that the day of, but didn't hear any news since...I wouldn't mind Daunte in to try and salvage his career while the Chiefs trying to salvage the season.

I still have no idea what the QB situation should be in the next coming years...I don't want to get rid of Brodie still pretty early in his career, but his injuries are just sickening. And with Colt staying another year I can't think of any college guy that is real promising.

I guess with whatever the Chiefs do with the QB spot, I'll be okay with...not really a clear-cut decision by any means.

Mitch Holbrook out of New Mexico St.  All of my friends are laughing at me right now because I've been telling them the same thing.  I don't know exactly what "it" is, but this guys got it.  He's a Roethlisberger clone, which means we'll still need a solid running game but, to paraphrase The Poz, it's better than Tyler, Ingle and Quinn.

The addition of Michael Vick would only make it the 2nd worst depth chart ever. He's barely an improvement over what they have now.

And thats only what he's done in the past as a NFL QB...who knows how different (better or worse) his play will be after coming out of prison.

So according to FoxSports via the ESPN bottom line (haven't found the story on FoxSports.com yet), Daunte canceled Tuesday's meeting with the Chiefs because of  "a better opportunity".

Thigpen did great in the Meadowlands, I doubt he keeps up that kind of play the rest of the season, but it might just be good enough for the rest of the season if Culpepper is no longer an option.

That's the best thing about young QB's... you never know when you might find a guy who's a lot better than anyone expected.
