Kansas City Chiefs QB Situation So Bad, Team Depth Chart Doesn't Even Show Position
READ MORE:

Yesterday, the Kansas City Chiefs reluctantly named Damon Huard the team's starting quarterback for Week 1. Herm Edwards and staff were hoping to see Brodie Croyle grab a hold of the job this summer and never look back. Instead, he'll grab on to the clipboard and watch on as Huard attempts to keep the team afloat.

Even with the veteran named starting QB, the Chiefs are so unhappy with their situation they aren't even listing the position on the official website depth chart. (via Fark)

Expect some fun Herm Edwards press conferences this season.

Wasn't Huard the one who kept the team afloat last season when Trent Green went down?  Personally I am happy to see it's Huard he earned the spot, he played 9 games last season and didn't do all that bad.  He'll be fine.

Yeah, but if he goes down... what then?

QB 11 Damon Huard 12 Brodie Croyle 1 Casey Printers 15 Jeff Terrell

Look at the other 3 QBs. I doubt any of them could do what Huard did last season.

I think it's too early to call Croyle a bust.  He just needs a little more time.  If Huard goes down he may be able to make a name for himself then.

I'm not saying he's a bust. Huard played 10 seasons prior to last season. This is only Croyle's 3rd season in the league. I highly doubt he'll be able to come in with no real experience and hold the team as Huard did. Printers was a rookie last year, and Terrell is a rookie this year. So, with the exception of Huard, the 3 other QBs have a total of 3 years experience.

99% of us doubted that Huard could do what he did last year, until he got the chance to prove us wrong. I think the decision truly comes down to philosophy, and King Carl wants to win right now. I would like to win every game also, but if a few losses meant Croyle became a solid QB in the future. I would rather lose now and let the team grow and develop together.

You are correct. 99% of us doubted.

My point was that if he was forced to step up now, could he? Probably not. He has played in I believe 2 games in his career. Sure, he could be a miracle in the making, but it's highly unlikely. 3-4 years down the road, could he do it? Possibly. My whole argument is the lack of experience in the backups.

I agree with you, but If Huard plays 16 games this season then we have the same situation next year. Unless a free agent QB is signed. I am still wishing they had taken a chance on Culpepper. However, since that didn't happen, maybe it would be best for the future to take some lumps now and atleast find out what Brody has.

Prior to last year the bulk of Huard's experience was with Miami in 1998-99 and not awe inspiring. Between 1999 and 2006 Huard;s experience was 'kneel downs' for New England.

The only thing I take from this(aside from the Chiefs are screwed) is LJ's fantasy value has just gone up, as if it could any more. And for Tony Gonzalez, sorry bud, but it's gonna be a long year.

I'm not really sure what you mean by that, referring to Tony Gonzalez.  If you have a weakness at QB the TE is going to get more passes not less.

Agreed, but what I mean is the QB is so bad he can't hit anybody. So no matter what position you are, if the QB has no accuracy it doesn't matter how open you get.  He'll be lucky if Huard can convert of half of the opportunites that are given to him.

If he couldn't hit a TE from 15 yards... nobody would be in the NFL.

Did you even watch Huard play?

Atleast have some knowledge of the player before you say such stupid things...11 TD's /  1 INT; 60.7 Comp. %, and 1878 yards...how the hell does that make him an inaccurate QB?

No idea... lol. 60% is above average... or at least average. I agree w/ you...that he's an above average QB. He's not elite... but, maybe in 2 years time he will be better.

In 2 years time Huard will be 36, not ancient, but a little late to hit your prime. I would rather find out what Croyle has now and act accordingly. Lets be honest with ourselves, the Chiefs are not making the playoffs, so they should cut losses, build on potential and let players who will stay play together. I have watched Huard play and he was efficient, not spectacular. He managed games well, while leaning on LJ and Tony G.. Saw Croyle, mostly in River Falls, and the arm is amazing. Decision making needs work, but you have to fall and pick yourself up before you can truly run at top speed. I would rather see flashes of excitement than the vanilla offense we will see under Huard.

I found the hidden list of possible starters they are trying to recruit.

Todd Marinovich

Art Schlichter

Akili Smith

Ryan Leaf  "Who said he was defiantly interested in the position".
