Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema admits his future is uncertain at the Bernabeu, but he would like to continue playing under a Los Blancos jersey for many years to come. The rumor mill indicated towards a summer move for Benzema last year; as interest in European circles increased.
Arsenal came closest to making a swoop for the France international. The negotiations were reportedly in their advance stages with the transfer fee becoming the only remaining obstacle both clubs had to jump over.
Benzema’s dip in form last year invited many critics to draw criticism on the 26-year-old striker and soon after the summer transfer window opened Benzema found himself up for sale. Benzema, who was bought by Real Madrid from Lyon in 2009 for 35 million Euros, also admitted that he had experienced a slump of form for both Real Madrid and France. The Frenchman said that even when he was out of form he never gave up hope and continued to strive for excellence.
With 21 goals in all competitions Benzema insists he persevered in bringing out his best form at Real Madrid.
“I had difficult moments with the club and with the national team,” Benzema said. “But I never dropped my hands, and I kept working. I always had confidence in myself. In the end, this will be a good year.”
Benzema further revealed that compatriot and Real Madrid’s assistant coach Zinedine Zidane played a big role in the success and good form he has attained at the club. Benzema said that the legendary Real Madrid midfielder had an inspiring influence on him and that he had always been there to lend help and advice.
