Ken Griffey Jr May Have Played His Last Game In The Major Leagues
Whether Or Not His Career Is Done, Griffey's Already An All-Time Great

We don't know yet if Ken Griffey Jr will ever play another MLB game again. What we do know is this: no matter when he calls it quits, he will be a lock to be voted into the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown 5 years later, and will go down as one of the greatest of all time.

If this is indeed his time, then he will have gone out in style... back with his first team, in the place where he accomplished most of his great achievements.

If he never roams the field again, or never steps back onto the field in an MLB uniform, where does Ken Griffey Jr stand among the greats of our era, or even of all time? When he was at his best, there wasn't a player on the planet who had his combination of skills. His years of Gold Glove defense in center field, along with 50 HR's, 140+ RBI and 20 stolen bases proved that.

Albert Pujols, Alex Rodriguez and Barry Bonds are the only offensive players in the past 20 years who truly compare. In history, I'd say Griffey is a top 10 all-time outfielder. Where would you rank him?

According to me, this guy is one of the true All-Time Greats who didn't ruin the game taking Roids

He is right up there with the greats..  His stats alone put him there, but his attitude and graciousness in and to the game keep him there.  He is truly an all time great..  The Kid..

I truly agree. Griffey Jr. wouldve hit as much as 700 homers, if it werent for his injuries.

Aaron, Mays, Ruth, Mantle, perhaps a tie with Williams or Clemente, I can't think of any others I'd put above him.

He's been my favorite player since I was little, very respectable guy and classy athlete.  Defenitely one of the greatest baseball players, unfortunate for the injuries but he for sure will be a hall of famer for the league and the Mariners

not only was Griffey a great player on the field but from all reports he was a great leader in the clubhouse and in the dugout for the Mariners this year....he was the leader on a team that really turned it around this year.....

Junior rocks hands down the best during all this cheating era in baseball. He did it right.

He's arguably the second best player I've ever seen behind Bonds.

I can't say much more than what has already said. But, because the voters for the HOF are idiots, I am sure some will not vote him in on first ballot because he didn't win a WS. He will get in on the first ballot, but a few writers always like to "prove a point."

Whoever doesn't vote for him first ballot, should lose their right to vote.

He's certainly a HOFer and one of the best of his era, but is he in the top 5 CF's of all time?

Willie Mays
Ty Cobb
Joe Dimaggio
Mickey Mantle
Tris Speaker
Duke Snider

Then I get down to Kirby Puckett, Dale Murphy, Fred Lynn.... I think Griffey Jr is better than these three guys I just listed but I'm not so sure that he's better than any of those first 6 guys I listed.

And I think Rickey Henderson is a better all time player than Griffey Jr too, but Rickey was a LF primarily during his career.

He was one of the greatest baseball players I ever had the opportunity to see play.  Funny you mention about Lemieux.  I remember a poll here a couple years ago asking who was the best out of Griffey, Bonds, and A-Rod.  I mentioned that very same comparison of how you could make the same argument for Griffey over A-Rod as you could for Lemieux over Gretzky.

Dang it! I was gunna say that because I totally agree!

Griffey Jr. will be a first-ballot hall-of-famer for sure. He will be able to join his father (who also was a great player of the past) in baseball's greatest accommodation. He has played baseball the right way and been one of the most humble players of his baseball generation. I won't be surprised if he's in two ring of honors (do they call it that in baseball?)  for the Mariners and Reds. Like said in most posts, his injuries hurt his run for the most HR's in history to a bigger stretch but hey, I've never seen a baseball player quite gifted like Griffey Jr. in my lifetime! He was a great player and sure to be a top 25 greatest of all time! If you come back, then that's just a gift for us! Thanks for the memories!
