We don't know yet if Ken Griffey Jr will ever play another MLB game again. What we do know is this: no matter when he calls it quits, he will be a lock to be voted into the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown 5 years later, and will go down as one of the greatest of all time.
If this is indeed his time, then he will have gone out in style... back with his first team, in the place where he accomplished most of his great achievements.
If he never roams the field again, or never steps back onto the field in an MLB uniform, where does Ken Griffey Jr stand among the greats of our era, or even of all time? When he was at his best, there wasn't a player on the planet who had his combination of skills. His years of Gold Glove defense in center field, along with 50 HR's, 140+ RBI and 20 stolen bases proved that.
Albert Pujols, Alex Rodriguez and Barry Bonds are the only offensive players in the past 20 years who truly compare. In history, I'd say Griffey is a top 10 all-time outfielder. Where would you rank him?
