You may remember over the weekend we had that video (courtesy of Fanhouse) of the rapping D2 golf ball guy. Well, I guess this was bound to happen - it's Kenny Mayne interviewing him.
The interesting thing about Mayne is that of all the Sportscenter anchors, I think he understands his job the best. He knows he's not a journalist, he's an entertainer. I'm not sure Stuart Scott gets that. You're not a journalist, Stu.
Anyway, I thought this interview would be for ESPN, but I'm not sure it is. It's like Mayne just goes around interviewing crazy idiots, even when he's not at ESPN.
Anyway, Nate Randle, Top-Flite's national brand manager, dreamed up the idea of the rapping golf guy and surprisingly it was well received by people at Callaway Golf. Whatever, I don't like golf so I'm just going to stop writing.
To scoop is that Kenny Manye has a contract with Top Flite. He's done several skits and commercials on Top Flite's new golf ball line that includes The Gamer (Similar performance to the Pro V1, yet for half the price tag). The ball is said to perform extremely well in the categories of Distance, Accuracy, and Checking up on the green when you need it to. The D2 Ball is a great ball as well. Top Flite actually was listed as one of Golf Digest's best inventions in 2007. The D2 sports new Dimple in Dimple technology that provides for longer more controlled ball.
If interested, I've got a pretty funny blog related to capturing the funny moments of the golf world. In the interest of humor, I've put together comprehensive coverage on the D2 Man phenomenon. Check it out at http://lightersideofgolf.typepad.com
