If you had July 21st in the Kerry Wood returning home to the disabled list, you're likely going to be a winner. Just about everyone and their sister predicted a Wood-DL stint long before the All-Star Break. Kid K has a finger blister that isn't healing a fast as the team would like, and thus it's likely the Cubs will make a roster move later today before playing a big road series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.Naturally, when any Chicago Cub, particularly a pitcher, it elicits full fledged panic and ridicule. Call me crazy, but I'm actually not concerned in the least with Kerry's "injury."
For starters, it's nothing related to his elbow or shoulder. It's not uncommon for a pitcher to battle at least one blister during the grind. Secondly, a couple weeks worth of rest can only to prepare Wood for one will certainly be a stressful final two months of the NL Central race. A blessing in disguise, I say.
The funny headlines should continue to be submitted, but no need to panic and point to this minor road bump as a signal that the Cubs are going to be, well, the Cubs and relinquish their division lead.
Not yet, at least. Tracking...
(Now that the calendar is nearing August, my apologies in advance for subjecting you more often than necessary to my daily trials and tribulations of being a Cubs fan. Doc says it's best to let it out.)
