Put down Kevin Durant as the first NBA basketball player to partner with highly respected rapper and current sports agent, Jay-Z. Durant has parted ways with former agent, Rob Pelinka, who is the agent for players such as Kobe Bryant, in order to collaborate with Jay-Z and Roc Sports for branding purposes.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, "KD wants Jay Z to handle his branding. He had a chance to be with his idol and couldn't say no."
Jay-Z has no experience as a sports agent, but what he does have is a lot of networks and the skills for marketing something. Jay-Z is largely responsible for the Brooklyn Nets logo and for bringing the “cool” factor in being a Nets fan once again.
If a superstar such as Kevin Durant is willing to jump ship to join Jay-Z's new enterprise, Jay-Z will soon be a highly sought after agent in the NBA, especially since the NBA culture and the hip hop culture have such a close connection.
