There's a reason why I absolutely hate politics, and it's fairly simple. Most people who vote are absolute idiots. They sit around and think "Hmmm, his foreign policy plan makes a lot of sense, but you know what, I don't really think it'd be fun to have a beer with him."They actually vote based on that incredibly asinine personal opinion. It's the definition of dumb.
And guess what, it's happening yet again, this time in my own home state.
In case you weren't aware, former NBA player Kevin Johnson is running for mayor in Sacramento. And he's on the verge of winning. With all precincts reporting, Johnson had 47 percent of the vote, compared with 40 percent for the incumbent mayor Heather Fargo. The race will likely go to a runoff, as 50 percent is needed for a victory, but Johnson's clearly in the driver's seat.
So, why am I so mad about this?
Here's reason number one. Johnson's a slumlord. And it's well documented. Read about yourself here in the Sacramento Bee.
Here's reason number two. Johnson sort of may have molested/sexually-assaulted a 16 year old girl when he was 29. That's Karl Malone territory people. Here's a snippet from the 1997 Phoenix New Times article:
The alleged sexual contacts, Turley wrote, had occurred in the summer of '95, when Kim was 16 and Johnson was 29. He quoted Kim Adams extensively in his demand letter, including this account: "He [Johnson] said I could sleep in his room or the guesthouse and I chose the guesthouse. . . . We got into the bed and he took all of my clothes off and all of his but his shirt. He was on top of me touching me all over—my breasts, butt, in between my legs, and stomach. Then he took off his shirt. I didn't really know what to do—I was very confused because I thought we were friends, but I didn't know what else to do than to go along with it. . . . He told me to pinky-promise not to say anything and when I asked why, he said I knew why."Whether that's totally true or not doesn't really matter. A person like Johnson shouldn't even be in the position to be potentially accused of something like this.
Needless to say I wouldn't want this guy running my town, or near the daughter I don't have yet, and yet Sacramento is on the verge of electing this guy.
By the way, in case you were wondering, the guy that finished third in the balloting behind Johnson and the incumbent is a bounty hunter.
I swear to God, you can't make this stuff up.
