Kevin Youkilis trade rumors focus on Red Sox, White Sox

Can we please reach the end of this Kevin Youkilis nonsense?

He's in the starting lineup today for the Sox, after spending a few days on the bench. Lately, it's been hard to justify leaving him in the lineup, since he's only hitting .225 and there are better options at every position that Youkilis can possibly play.

Rookie 3B Will Middlebrooks has been an absolute monster this year, particularly in the past few games, going 10 for 14 with 3 HR. DH David Ortiz has a .975 OPS and has 18 HR so far. 1B Adrian Gonzalez is struggling a bit, hitting only .259 so far, with an inexplicably low 5 HR, but he has still been better than Youk, and is simply too good of a player to be taken out of the lineup on a regular basis.

Despite the fact that Youkilis played a huge part in the Red Sox' 2007 championship run, his value to the Red Sox right now is extraordinarily low. It's clear that he's not happy with his current role on the bench, and there are several teams who have expressed interest in his services.

Some people have questioned the Red Sox' methods, saying that they haven't handled Youkilis well, but aside from one misguided comment from Bobby Valentine, they haven't bashed him at all. That perception is completely media-fueled, and really holds no water. Not to mention the fact that listening to Bobby V is hazardous to anyone's mental health.

In all reality, the one handling this in the worst manner is Youkilis' brother Scott, who has taken to Twitter to voice his opinions on the rumors that Youkilis will be traded to the White Sox within the next few days:

While I'm glad he's excited about the rumors surrounding his brother, I'm not sure this is the best way to go about expressing it.

Lots of baseball insiders are saying that the Red Sox and White Sox are engaged in very serious dialogue about a potential Youkilis trade, but it hasn't happened yet.

What happens if he ends up going to the Dodgers, Indians, or Pirates, all teams that are reportedly interested in him?

Better yet, what happens if the Red Sox end up keeping him?

If that were to happen, Chef Scott Youkilis would have quite a bit of egg on his face, after these comments.

I actually agree that Bobby V is a joke, but what exactly is the ugly side of Boston sports? Is he upset because his brother was supplanted by players who are all CLEARLY having better seasons? Is he mad because the Red Sox are trying to trade Youk, and give him an opportunity to actually play, instead of riding the bench?

The Red Sox are doing the right thing here, and for the most part, they've done it the right way. Sure, Bobby V shoots off his mouth sometimes. But Kevin Youkilis has been treated MORE than fairly in Boston, and people just need to relax.

Reports are Youkilis has been traded to the White Sox, which makes sense given how horrid their 3rd basemen have been this year.

As I pointed out to you on Twitter, Middlebrooks's BABIP this year is .392. His hot streak won't last, but given that yet another Boston player has ended up with a sour relationship to the team, I can see why the trade had to be done.

Cross the Bucs off the list, had a guy who works with the Bucs and talks to Huntington quite often tell me last week that the Pirates aren't even going after Youk anymore.
