Kieran Gibbs has echoed the importance to end the eight-year trophy drought Arsenal is suffering from. The fullback reiterated the need for desperate action to earn silverware for Arsenal’s trophy cabinet.
The 23-year-old England international insisted Arsenal needed to win against Swansea City at the FA Cup’s third down tie on Sunday. Kieran Gibbs labeled the game as one of the biggest match of the season for Arsenal.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been chasing silverware for a long time. The Frenchman has been haunted by menacingly unfortunate fate in recent history. Arsenal have been on the verge of lifting trophies a number of times since they last won a won a trophy, which was the FA Cup in 2005, but they have somehow managed to drop them.
“Obviously we're out of the League Cup now so we need to make sure that we're fully focused on Sunday and realize that we have a chance to put a trophy in the cabinet,” Kieran Gibbs said in an interview to Arsenal’s official website. “We go to Swansea like it's one of our biggest games of the season.”
Kieran Gibbs, who is one of the five players to have inked an extension contract, is delighted by his personal performances this season. The young defender has plenty to smile about as he prepares for good form in 2013.
“I've always been committed to the club ever since I was given my chance by the boss,” Kieran Gibbs said. “I wanted to show him how dedicated I am. I hope that over the last few months I've done that.
“I'm happy with the first half of the season. I've been able to get in a good number of games and this is the closest I've had to a full season. Hopefully I can keep that going for the rest of the season and keep myself fit and strong.
“It's been important to get some momentum. It's what I've wanted to do for so long now and I'm happy just to be fit, playing and getting games.”
Kieran Gibbs was introduced as the new left back of Arsenal after Arsene Wenger was forced to sell Gael Clichy to Manchester City last summer. Kieran Gibbs has made 18 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal this season. The youngster has also provided five assists and featured twice for the England national team.
