Lost Amid All The NFL Action Today Was Kim Clijsters Becoming The First Unseeded Woman Ever To Win The US Open

You can be excused if you had no clue about this, but Kim Clijsters won the US Open today, and man, was it ever historic. First of all, Clijsters was coming back from a two-year break plus having had a kid. On top of that, she was unseeded heading into the US Open.

So, she became the first mother since 1980 to win the US Open and the first unseeded woman EVER to win it by beating Carolyn Wozniacki 7-5, 6-3. That's pretty historic, to say the least.

Anyway, you can now get back to what's truly important. Football.

Ha ! Well fortunately there are many Tennis fans, who consider the U.S. Open a premiere sporting event, and Kim Clijsters gave us something special to watch and she sliced and diced her way through the Williams Sisters, and then played Wozniacki more patient serve and volley game to show what a complete player Kim is. Many people are making accusations that the WTA tour talent may not be as deep as proclaimed if someone can come back out of nowhere and streak through all those ranked players and win the Open. Clijsters is a natural, just a great player with great skills. The problem if you want to call it that is the Williams Sisters resurgence the last year or so is due to Sharpovia being out, and potential superstar players like Ivanovich, and Jankovich becoming one-slam wonders. These were two woman who were supposed to become dominate, but now all you see of them are pictures of them in bathing suits and leathers off the court. They have faded fast as has Nichol Vladasova, who was considered a real up and comer. I think Maria Sharapova had the best idea about being beautiful, but being a tennis player comes first and that's what some of these other players need to do.

Excellent overview, Dude! I had about given up watching women's tennis. The Williams Sister Show was wearing me out, as well as the twinkies who use it as a stepping stone to modeling, or whatever. Kim was awesome! It's a shame Serena overshadowed Kim's semi-final win with her spectacular tantrum. I hope this is a sign of things to come!
