Kirilenko Deal Investigated by NBA
After the Brooklyn Nets hijacked Andrei Kirilenko for $3.1 million, instead of paying him the $10.2 million that he could have originally received from the Minnesota Timberwolves, complaints around the league surfaced about some under the table deals between the Nets management and Prokhorov.
Recently ,however, the NBA “thoroughly” looked into the deal that was struck by the Brooklyn Nets and Andrei Kirilenko and found nothing suspicious.
“When there is a formal complaint, the league will look into it,” said one league official. “It was a very, very thorough investigation,” another source said. “They checked everything.”
The Russian billionaire who owns the Nets, Mikhail Prokhorov, had a previous friendship with Andrei Kirilenko because of their Russian roots, however, Prokhorov is adamant that there was nothing illegal or shady taking place with Kirilenko’s new deal.
“Old stereotypes, they’re very hard to beat and to break,” Prokhorov said “I respect all the NBA rules and we play by the NBA rules. But I want just to stress once again, like with luxury tax, I will do whatever I can in order to win championship — but under the NBA rules. Please make no mistake about this.”
