Kirk Cousins to play for Washington Redskins instead of Robert Griffin III

RG3 is a 'healthy' scratch, and Kirk Cousins will start for the Redskins

Dec 8, 2013; Landover, MD, USA; Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III (10) throws the ball as Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Frank Zombo (51) chases in the first quarter at FedEx Field. The Chiefs won 45-10. Mandatory Credit: Geoff Burke-USA TODAY SportsThis year, the Washington Redskins have handled Robert Griffin III about as poorly as they possibly could.

Earlier in the season, when he was obviously not 100% healthy and unable to move as well as he normally does, they played him anyway, and paid for it with 3 key losses to open the season.

Now, when he's healthy at the end of the season, they're benching him in favor of backup Kirk Cousins. The reasoning is that they want to ensure that he remains healthy for the offseason, now that the 3-10 Redskins are completely out of playoff contention.

If they had benched RG3 in the beginning of the year when they should have, they might not be in this predicament. They might have been able to piece together a couple more wins at the beginning of the season, RG3 may have been more effective in the middle of the season by coming back when he should, and he might have potentially been leading them to a playoff spot now, instead of riding the pine.

I said about a year ago that the Redskins should have considered trading RG3 when they might have had the chance. That was before they allowed him to wreck his knee in the playoffs in another game he should never have played.

Griffin is an incredibly dynamic player, but he obviously still hasn't learned when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em. He makes great plays with his feet, but needs to know that sometimes, it's ok to slide and go down, and it's also ok to run out of bounds at times.

The Redskins are mismanaging this situation horribly, and this latest decision to start Cousins is just another confirmation that they've botched the handling of their franchise QB.

I don't know if you have been reading the stuff "surfacing", but these two things I found interesting (laughable) 1. Snyder doesn't want to pay the 7 mil to get rid of Shanahan and 2. Kyle came out on the side of Griffin and Snyder about the benching. I really don't think Griffin should of been on the field this year. My opinion: if you have to wear a brace, you are not healthy, plus the fact he could do more damage. Cousins is in so "other" teams can see how good he is or his potential so they can trade him off. smh, this team is a mess....still love em!

Kyle trying to save his own azz?  I agree that RGIII should have sat out a lot longer than he did.  I'm glad Cousins is in, because maybe we will see some rejuvenation in the team, under his leadership, if you will.  Looking forward to the game against Atlanta!! Really!! Honestly!!  blush

I know I agree with Pat in that RGIII doesn't always make the smartest split decisions onfield.  I also know he has complained that he is being given the wrong calls from the coaches.

I also know that the team as a whole has had some great opportunities to win games this year and haven't been able to succeed.  Shanahan wants out, so I hope he gets his wish.

They need to rebuild their office managment, starting at the top.

My question is why didn't Daniel Snyder pull the plug on RG3 as quarterback earlier in the season when it was obvious to everybody outside of Washington that he wasn't right.  The Redskins organization gave up a lot to trade up and get RG3 so somebody within that organization has to look out for the long term investment.  To me, that falls into the lap of the guy that writes the checks.

One word: Bromance. Snyder loves him. This is a power struggle. Snyder writes the checks, that is correct. Supposedly, Shanahan has a contract that gives him control of the players. I'm not sure how air tight that is. To me, it was Snyder wanted Robert on the field, and Shanahan said ok, we'll do it your way. Now Shanahan can sit back and say, "told you so".

Shanahan is trying to get fired, since because he has some control over personnel moves, it wouldn't be being fired for cause, meaning he gets the $7 million owned to him. RGIII is caught in the middle, since, as many put it, an outdoor snowy game on the crappy FedEx turf is fine, but a dome game against Atlanta is suddenly dangerous. Maybe he isn't healthy (there's evidence), but the decision isn't being made based on that.

Oh well, there's a faction of Washington fans that turned on RGIII long ago and have wanted Cousins. They get their wish.

Pressure from within determines a lot of what goes on. Without actually being there in the meetings speculation can fly all it wants. Skins fans all over are asking "what if". Starting Cousins now is moot in my opinion. Would of, could of & their cousin should of all appropriate.
