... you'd have to pay me a lot to coach either team, as well. Can I safely assume that I'm not alone in my amusement over the Knicks and Bulls fighting over a coach who failed to win a big playoff series during his tenure with the Phoenix Suns? OK, that's what I thought.
Earlier this week, Marc Stein, the Chris Mortensen of the NBA, said it was basically a done deal that D'Antoni would be headed to the Bulls. He likes the Bulls and GM John Paxson has a mutual interest but there appears to be some differences in finances.
Paxson is also appropriately concerned over the team's strategy. He's a defense guy, clearly D'Antoni is not.
While Pax mulls his decision, it appears the Knicks are set to provide the Suns coach an impre$$ive offer.
Quite the decision - Bulls or Knicks? Who would you choose?
Serious question. As much as I'm a Bulls fan and view the Knicks organization as a total disaster, there's that charm of Madison Square Garden and everything that organization used to mean to the NBA. Rebuilding the Knicks makes you a legend. And in this instance, immortal. So long as Mr. Walsh gave me some kind of long-term assurances, since this is getting turned around quickly, I'd go with the Knicks. Lebron will probably be there in a few short years.
The Bulls are the more talented team, and try not to laugh, not terribly far away from competing in the Eastern Conference. They just need to be coddled appropriately, and add a low post scoring threat.
I like D'Antoni, I really do, but I won't lose any sleep if the Bulls fail to land him. With Avery Johnson as the other "top" available coach, I think this is a good offseason to try and find that sleeper assistant coach.
