After failing to score in the second half by missing all four of his field goal attempts, Pau Gasol was benched for the entire fourth quarter for Antawn Jamison.
Shortly after losing to the Magic, 113-103, a frustrated Kobe Bryant added salt to Pau Gasol’s tender ego by saying, “Put your big boy pants on. Just adjust," he said. "You can't whine about it. I'm 34 years old. I'm running screen-and-rolls out there. Steve Nash is out and my [tail] is running up and down the court more than I have my entire career. You have to adjust to it. I stay after practice and work on my ball-handling, my screen and roll."
While the Lakers have a distinct size advantage over most other teams in the NBA, they are significantly less athletic than the younger run-n-gun teams. So, if Pau Gasol isn’t utilizing his height to his advantage, look for Mike D’Antoni to play small ball more with Antawn Jamison at the power forward position, while Pau Gasol cheers from the bench.
