The real loss that they suffered was the indefinite loss of Kobe Bryant due to an ankle sprain.
The guard came down hard while being D'ed up by Dahntay Jones who walked right between Kobe Bryant's legs, causing him to fall awkwardly.
Kevin Ding of the OC Register tweeted:
Kobe on worst sprain he's had since 2000 Finals: "I can't get my mind past the fact that I got to wait a year to get revenge."— KEVIN DING (@KevinDing) March 14, 2013
There are three grades to ankle sprains: mild, moderate and severe. The Lakers are calling Kobe's left ankle a severe sprain.— KEVIN DING (@KevinDing) March 14, 2013
But Jones isn't one to go down without a fight. He tweeted:
Kobe, referring to the foot he landed on in the 2000 NBA Finals vs. Indiana, said about Dahntay Jones: "He Jalen Rose'd me."— KEVIN DING (@KevinDing) March 14, 2013
Tape doesn't lie. Ankle was turned on the floor after the leg kick out that knocked him off balance. I would never try to hurt the man— Dahntay (@dahntay1) March 14, 2013
Leg kick that makes contact with a defensive player is an offense foul. Period. The nba changed that rule 2 yrs ago. Stop it!— Dahntay (@dahntay1) March 14, 2013
Now the interesting part is that this isn't the first time that Jones has been in this situation with Kobe, but apparently Dahntay is really sorry. He tweeted:
#dangerousplay that should have been called. Period.— Kobe Bryant (@kobebryant) March 14, 2013
You take a look and decide if it was an accident, or if Kobe's claims have merit. Either way, what's done is done, and Kobe is now injured.
Now what happened in 09' I am not proud of but it was a heated playoff series with a championship on the line— Dahntay (@dahntay1) March 14, 2013
