Aug 11, 2012; London, United Kingdom; Spain guard Jose Calderon (8) defends against USA guard Kobe Bryant (10) during the men's basketball final in the London 2012 Olympic Games at North Greenwich Arena. Mandatory Credit: Bob Donnan-USA TODAY SportsKobe Bryant called into the Jim Rome Show on Friday and talked about the changes he's made to help his game.

He said his diet was one of the biggest things he's changed. Kobe said he's had to scale back on things like his In-N-Out, red meat, sugar cookies and eat more of “all the stuff your mom tells you to eat when you're a kid growing up.”

It makes you wonder what candy-lover Lamar Odom is cutting back on as he ages.

Over the summer, and for the Olympics, it was highly documented that Kobe dropped 16 pounds, to lighten the load on his knees. He hasn't been shy with talking about his weight loss, and he seemed pretty spry during the games, but you have to wonder how that will affect his defensive presence.

Kobe wasn't defensive player of the year last season, by any means, but he's definitely a large part of the Lakers' D due to his intensity and ability to read his opponents.

With a lighter frame, he'll no doubt have an easier time keeping up with his younger counterparts, namely the Oklahoma City Thunder, but Kobe will also have undoubtedly have lost some of his strength.

With his history of knee problems, it makes sense that the veteran would want to lighten the load, but you'll surely be able to see a difference between his D and a stronger, bigger player, like Metta World Peace, for example.

The Black Mamba has to do whatever he needs to in order to lengthen his NBA career and play to his best capability, but it will be interesting to see if he's swapped one part of his game to help sustain another.

Well this just shows you, even athletes that burn loads of calories per day running and playing also need a diet so it is not like “I can eat a burger and I won’t gain weight because I will burn the fats in exercising or during the game”.
Everyone needs a diet and whether you are skinny looking for how to gain weight fast or overweight looking for weight loss, you need a diet (weight gain diet or weight loss diet), so you can stay healthy.

Well when you lose weight from changing your diet for the better you are getting rid of bad weight and weight that drains on you.  A better diet can only help with stamina and endurance; as well as taking the load off his knees.  I personally think it will bring back some of his quickness and his acuteness that has been ebbing as of late.  You are what you eat and you eat fast food and crap your body reacts to it in every way eventually.
