Kobe Bryant has been able to resist Twitter, save one or two forays, but on Christmas, Kobe took over the @nikebasketball page and got to interact with people.
He's been active on Facebook, but talked about using the new platform, saying:
"It was cool. It was just fun. I had a good time talking with a lot of the fans. The coolest thing about that was the one-on-one interaction. It was like I was getting flooded with text messages from fans and it was pretty cool to be able to have a dialogue back with them. I enjoyed it... I really just didn't know how to use it, but I decided 'Well, why not give it a shot and just talk to the fans directly?' I found it to be enjoyable. I had a good time. I heard a lot of great comments. You're able to get a lot of great feedback about the game but also about the product as well — what they thought, what they like, what they didn't like. It's the best way to gauge reaction."
Don't expect the Black Mamba to be firing up his own account any time soon though. Why? Because he cares about the fans. Kobe said, “The one thing about me is that when I'm doing it, I enjoy doing it myself. I don't know if I have the time available to really give the fans the attention that they deserve."
Kobe has often confessed to being driven by the media and what people are saying about him, in the past. The public said he looked old last year? So, this season he came back leaner and is having one of the best years of his career.
During the season, you want the players to focus on basketball, but once he's done playing, it would definitely be fun for Kobe to join the Twittersphere, especially since he is never shy about his opinions.
