Kobe Bryant To Be Offered $83 Million By Greek Team Olympiakos
If I Were Kobe, I'd Probably Have To Think Long And Hard About This
READ MORE:
Remember during the summer when Josh Childress signed with Greek squad Olympiakos for a boatload of money? And then there were all these rumors about guys going to play in Europe that turned out to be untrue so we all just said, eh whatever, Childress is just a one-time case, they'll never get big time stars over there.

Well, looks like we could be wrong.

It's being reported that Olympiakos is preparing to offer Kobe an absurd $83 million contract - untaxed - next summer that will include these nice extra throw-ins:

In that contract there will be an incredible list of benefits, a villa in the Mediterranean Sea, pay all the taxes at the expense of the club, to pay the bills for the staff and for a private boat for Kobe Bryant. The article also says that they are planning to form Olympiakos into an NBA style club with a court that fits 15-20 thousand seats and a private jet for the team.

That's ridiculous.

Now, you may recall that during the Olympics, Kobe was asked if he'd ever be open to going to Europe for $50 million a year. His response was that he'd be crazy not to think long and hard about it. Although this contract isn't for $50 million a year, the fact that he wouldn't be taxed, plus all those amenities, makes this deal better than a straight $50 million a year.

This could indeed be the NBA's ultimate test case, because let's think about this rationally. With Andrew Bynum back this season, LA will be the favorite to win it all. Should the Lakers do that, Kobe gets his fourth ring and sticks it to Shaq by finally winning one without the Man of Steel. Plus, Kobe already has that MVP under his belt. Honestly, what more would he have to prove in the NBA? Sure, he could attempt to go for 6 titles like Jordan, or he could live like a king in one the most beautiful countries in the world and really be set for life.

This also isn't a ridiculous notion of Kobe going to Europe, as he is a bit of special case. He grew up in Italy and is fluent in Italian. He's lived in Europe and isn't as adverse to idea of moving there it seems as other NBA players.

This also isn't unprecedented. David Beckham came to LA. Pele came to New York in the 1970s, along with a throng of other European stars.

Anyway, we'll see what happens, but I hope the offer gets put out there for Kobe. It could indeed mark the true beginning of the globalization of basketball, and send David Stern home crying.

Honestly, how much money does one person need?  Stay in the NBA and continue your quest to become the best player in history.

doubt it would happen. olympiakos would be better off throwing cash at players one tier below bryant. they dont need the super elite even the really good NBA players would be excessive spending.
i just youtubed the olympiacos and their fans are craazy id love to play there though lol http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=ssrjQYUxTjw

Kobe isn't going anywhere.  Ask'em him again in 5 years when he's skills become average like the rest of the league.

Kobe is getting old. A couple of more good years and it's all downhill from there. He's already earning millions here. Why the switch?

Kobe has shown again and again that he is just a selfish player. As for them winning the title , i seriously doubt it. Their are way too many good teams in the west. He wont win any more championships in the NBA. He also is not no Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson. Team players win championships and are not constantly complaining all the time and making threat all the time about leaving or being unhappy.

Kobe... What can i say i know if i had the oppturnity to go overseas and play basketball for 83 million dollars i would do it. His contract in the NBA is alot but its not as much as what they are paying overseas. He could go over there and play basketball, have a house and have a boat for FREE. If he knows how i know he would go overseas.

It does not matter: As a US citizen, and even if he renounced his citizenship, he would still owe the feds US tax. A US citizen who renounces his citizenship is still on the hook for 10 years per our laws and only about the first $75,000 for a US citizen earning and living abroad for more than half the year is exempt from our taxes.

They still get you.

I believe with this deal that the club will pay the taxes so Kobe will actually get to keep all $83 million.

Other then maybe KG, Kobe Bryant is the hardest working NBA star both on and and off the court. Living in So-Cal, I have witnessed the greatness so many times live and on TV. This isn't the 1st time Kobe has been swayed to leave Los Angeles. It seems like every summer....literally every summer...Enough to just about "rip" your heart right out, but in the end Kobe has backed up his promise to be a "Laker 4 Life". As a fan you think,"He won't leave, but $83 MIL Tax Free!!!" It's enough to get us Lakers fans all worried again, but when NOV 1 comes around, let the show begin. Kobe Bryant won't leave the Lakers until he has at least won 1 or 2 more NBA Championships. I say he has 5 great years left and 5 good years left. Kobe will ride off into the sunset at 40 years old....A Laker 4 Life.

"Kobe Bryant won't leave the Lakers until he has at least won 1 or 2 more NBA Championships"

You really think they're gonna let him play that far into his 60's?

I thought that was hilarious Pat...At least you have a good sense of humor...Unlike RenegadeLG who seems to have some sort of fear of people from So-Cal. Anyways, I always respect your comments because you do a lot of thinking before you write. Whether we agree of disagree, I can count on learning something new from you. Peace Bro!

"Demolishing underage ass without consent IS hard work."

That's the oldest "Kobe Diss" on the records, and I've seen you use it several times already.

Of course Kobe starts the rumors...Have you ever heard of the business term: MARKETING? 2005 Kobe wanted to test the market to see how much he was worth. Why Not? IN 2007 Kobe wanted to see what other teams were willing to give up for him and check to see if Jerry and Mitch were dedicated to winning championships. Why not get a taste? Kobe's image had to be re-built, so why not see which other markets are fans Kobe?  That entire day summer 07 when Kobe was all over the Local and National Radios asking to be traded...."Clean out my locker? I didn't say I was cleaning out my locker..." That candid interview in the parking lot dissing Andrew Bynum...Welcome to Hollywood RenegadeLG..." You only wish the Nuggets had him...

Note: Allen Iverson is one of my all time favorite players, so Nuggets fans I'm not a hater. Melo and K-Mart are pretty cool too...
