Apparently, she has been holding on to this stuff for years, and now she has decided that she's tired of paying $1500 per month to keep it in storage, and she wants to sell it off and buy a new house.
The collection includes jerseys from when he was in high school and early in his NBA career, as well as trophies, some of which date all the way back to his middle school days.
Kobe and his lawyers aren't thrilled with how all of this is going down, and it sounds like the situation is pretty tense, according to his lawyer's statement:
It definitely sounds like this could get pretty messy between Kobe and his mother.
The solution seems pretty simple, to be honest. If you're Kobe, just give your mom a few hundred thousand for a nice house, take back the memorabilia, and store it somewhere in your own house. I'm sure he has somewhere he could store this stuff. He might even already have a man cave of some sort, and this stuff would fit perfectly in there.
Either way, it should be interesting to see how this shakes out. Either Kobe will get his stuff back somehow, or there will be some pretty amazing pieces of sports history out there, floating around the public.
