Kompany and Silva to return to Man City for clash against Man Utd
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany believes he is ready for the mouthwatering clash with Manchester United this Sunday. The Belgian defender claims to be in “perfect condition” for the Manchester derby.
Kompany returned to action in Manchester City’s 3-0 Champions League victory over Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday night. Kompany had been sidelined from action since a 4-0 victory over Newcastle United on the opening day of the Premier League.
“I was probably more happy than anyone else to be on the pitch,” Kompany said. “It feels great. I am really happy to be back with the guys and I work hard every single day to make sure I can play as many games as possible.
“I am also very thankful to the medical staff that gave me such good attention and allowed me to come back in perfect condition. I felt in incredible form when I left the team and I have come back in feeling in the same form and that is the most important.”
The 27-year-old Belgium international has returned to the squad just in time to support Manchester City’s defense which has fallen into an injury crisis. Teammates Gael Clichy, Martin Demichelis and Micah Richards have been ruled out because of fitness problems.
Kompany, who scored on a header to help Manchester City pick up a 1-0 victory over Manchester United during the 2011-12 season, admits he is relishing the opportunity visit David Moyes’ men at Old Trafford.
“We will make sure we are in the right condition for the game,” Kompany added. “It is a special game. It is becoming one of the most sought-after fixtures in the world and it is always great to be involved in such games. I never take them for granted.”
Meanwhile, Clichy is expected to miss the derby because of a thigh injury. The full back has been out of action for the past three games with Aleksandar Kolarov taking up the responsibility on the defensive left wing.
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes the club’s main playmaker David Silva will recover from this thigh injury in time to play against the Premier League champions.
“David Silva could play in the derby, from the reports I have had, but we will see when we get back to Manchester. I think it is more difficult for Clichy to play, but we are still trying,” Pellegrini said after the 3-0 victory over Plezen.
