Blog Photo - Kurt Busch will drive for Stewart Haas Racing in 2014 forwardA Press conference is set for 2pm on Tuesday, but Kurt Busch has already tweeted the news and multiple sources, including Marty Smith of ESPN and Lee Spencer of FoxSports, have reported the signing.

Kurt Busch will drive the #00 for Stewart Haas Racing starting in 2014, with Haas Automation on the car.  That would be Gene Haas's company, and he was very vocal over the past few days that having Kurt Busch in their stable, driving a car his company could sponsor was a dream.

Kurt's tweet read as follows:

I’m excited about having teammates esp @KevinHarvick & #Smoke working w/guys like @GZipadelli & @markmartin is an opportunity of a lifetime

I'm slightly puzzled about the Mark Martin reference, as Mark is filling in for Tony while he recuperates the rest of this season, but I'm unaware of any association after that.  Perhaps there are moves in mind for earlier than the start of next season, but with Kurt showing an excellent chance to compete in the Chase for 2013, I certainly hope he can remain focused for Furniture Row Racing.

Interestingly enough, this news comes as both ESPN and TNT are negotiating to be released from their 2014 broadcast obligations.

Silly season continues, JTG Daugherty has made an offer to AJ Allmendinger to drive the No. 47 full-time in 2014. Bobby Labonte has been offered Labonte a position within the company as well, he hasn't decided his plans for 2014 at this time.

And read from a few places over the last week that Ryan Newman has been negotiating with RCR about a fourth team. Sounds like Childress doesn't want to be funding that fourth team outta of his pocket, Newman said last week that he did not have any sponsors signed but it is believed that he is hopeful that Quicken Loans and possibly others will stick with him. Does that mean Juan Pablo Montoya moves to FRR if that happens? What if the RCR deal falls apart does Ryan Newman move to FRR? Juan Pablo Montoya moves back to IndyCar? I guess we'll find out in the next few weeks with what happens with guys without a ride for next season as silly season continues.

I think you only have to look at (my go to example) Joey Logano to see Kyle Larson's future. I have said many times one season in Nationwide, really isn't enough. Look at Matt Kenseth and Dale Jr...they both spent a few years in Nationwide before making the leap. I understand, owners trying to get a jump on things, but I only see a young driver, who is talented, being pushed out of the nest so to speak. I wish him good luck.

Oh and Eric: If you are talking about the 1966 movie Grand Prix? It's more love storish than racing.

More news with regards to the Cup series, Harry Scott completes purchase of Phoenix Racing (No. 51 car). He's taking Justin Allgaier and Brandt w/him to Cup for three races this year. Chicagoland will be Justin Allgaier's Sprint Cup Series debut. He'll also race at Charlotte and Talladega this fall.

EDIT: Forget this as well, Bobby Labonte broke three ribs while riding his bike this morning! He's out for Atlanta. Mike Bliss will race the 51 car instead. A tough year injury-wise for NASCAR drivers: Annett, Hamlin, Stewart, McClure + Labonte all have missed races and Truex has a broken wrist. When's the last time NASCAR had these many guys hurt in a season?

As for Haas and what he did. I understand it is his money. But if he had already talked to Tony about bringing Busch over and Tony had said no, then what he did was wrong in my book. Again it is his money funding the new car, but i think Haas feels he can force the union. It is one of those wait and see things. Next year is a bit down the road. Maybe Tony will mellow some.

On the other side, Ron Howard has made a movie called Rush. It is about the feud between Niki Lauda & James Hunt. I will be seeing this movie. Have you heard about it? Thoughts?

What it sounds like is a dysfunctional mess on every level.

I have no idea if Larson is being rushed or not. I know there was early speculation that Mark Martin would split the ride and mentor him, but I don't know if that was made up.

As for Rush, I have definitely heard of it and can't wait to see. It's based on the 1976 season, which was between Lauda and Hunt for the World Championship. I'm not sure if they were personal rivals, but from what I've heard, they are (or were, Hunt's dead) quite different people. I think it could be the best racing film since Grand Prix (which I really need to see at some point).

Soooooo Gene Haas will sponsor Kurt with Haas Automation, and Kurt has nothing but praise for Tony and Kevin.

I think it's gonna be a looooooong off-season!

And Kyle Larson in Cup full time would be a train wreck if he were moving to a top caliber team.  Moving to EGR isn't that big a deal.  He will have Jamie McMurray to help him out, and the young man has already shown he has the maturity and can drive.  Joey Logano was just simply too young to move up.  Kyle Busch moved up at a young age and did fine, so to me it is more of a wait and see game than a failure.

I'll cover more in this week's TWIN, but also newsworthy is Martin Truex Jr's broken wrist.  He has been fitted with a special cast and will continue to compete the rest of the season, hopefully gaining a spot in the Chase.

After reading some of quotes from today's press conference, I see potential for turmoil when one co-owner says his decision "was met with a little resistance"

And Kyle Larson is moving up to Cup next year. Ugh, absolutely terrible as history has taught rushing someone into Cup is bad, Kyle needs another 2 or 3 years in Nationwide.

And yes, I've already read this is entire a Gene Haas thing. He's apparently funding the entire Busch program.

Reading other stories: Tony Stewart is not exactly "happy" with this. As I read, this is my take: Haas went behind Stewart's back and courted Busch for a team with the name "haas" on the car. Basically Tony was told "oh well" deal with it. Haas wants the name Haas in victory lane sans "Stewart's name". Haas has long wanted a victory he can "call his own". Can't wait for part 2!
