Kyle Orton decided to play a practical joke on viewers of the Bears vs 49ers preseason game Thursday night. He dressed up and performed like a real, actual NFL-caliber quarterback.
Of course, this was just a meaningless preseason game, but for those doubting the Bears had a remotely capable QB, his performance meant everything. Orton was crisp, accurate and proficient in leading two scoring drives, both passing touchdowns to Rashied Davis. Orton finished 10-of-17 for 147 yards.
Here's the visual proof. I swear.
Lovie Smith can now say "Kyle Orton is our quarterback," and actually mean it.
On the other side of the field, Mike Nolan and Mike Martz also found their starting quarterback in J.T. O'Sullivan. The career backup everywhere Martz has been, matched Orton's proficiency connecting on 7-of-8 attempts for 126 yards and a touchdown.
Alex Smith is starting to put down the official bust stamp, looking nothing like a 1st overall draft pick, and honestly, not even looking as "good" as Rex Grossman. Remind me how this guy was ever considered a must have, first pick?
