According to reports, Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan has made it on several NFL teams’ coaching wish list. Now, the interest is mutually shared as Kyle Shanahan said Thursday that he is“definitely” looking forward to exploring NFL head coaching opportunities once the Washington Redskins season ends.

“I think every coach in the NFL, that’s all of our goals,” Kyle Shanahan discussed the level of interest in a head coach job. “Everybody wants the opportunity someday to be a head coach. I really hope someday I get that opportunity. It’s very flattering to be mentioned for it right now.”

With seven head coach openings, it won’t be a surprise if Kyle Shanahan makes it as far as being short-listed by one or two NFL teams. Currently Arizona Cardinals, San Diego Chargers, Chicago Bearsm Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles are seeking head coaching candidates. The Kansas City Cheifs are reportedly closing in on a deal with Andy Reid.

On Monday, Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan banned his assistants for interviewing for jobs while the Washington Redskins were still playing in the playoffs. However, Kyle Shanahan admitted on Thursday he didn’t know about the head coach’s verdict until reading it in the paper.

“I didn’t know that until I read it. It’s not something I’m asking about or reading about,” said Kyle Shanahan. “ I just live in my office back there, studying the heck out film, trying to get ready for this game (against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday).

“And anything that detours your mind from that is going to be a detriment to the team,” Kyle Shanahan showed awareness to the sensitivity of the issue.

Besides, don’t expect Kyle Shanahan rushing at the first head coaching opportunity since, he doesn’t even have an agent and plans to remain  true to his word, passing interview for a job until the Washington Redskins’ postseason concludes.

“I haven’t answered my phone in about six months,” said Kyle Shanahan. “I’ll check my voicemail after” the season.

Kyle Shanahan served a season as offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans before tagging along with his father Mike Shanahan for the past three seasons with the Washington Redskins. Kyle Shanahan caught a break in his third season with the Washington Redskins, when he was lauded for the handling of rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III and the team’s innovative offense this season. The Washington redskins ended the regular season, leading the NFL in rushing yards and ranks fourth in points per game.
