LA Clippers Acquire Marcus Camby From Denver Nuggets In Exchange For Nothing

What Exactly Is Denver's Game Plan?

Marcus Camby TradedThere have been bigger headlines during this summer period of flux in NBA rosters, but none is more puzzling than the news last night that Denver sent away Marcus Camby to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for a few measly second round draft picks.

For a team that has plenty of talent, I remain confounded by the Nuggets actual plan to win games. Offense is not an issue, Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith and Allen Iverson are all capable of putting up 30 on a given night.

What's been holding Denver back is a lack of team defense. Iverson can get you some quick backcourt steals, but in general there's been was one man holding down the fort and they just sent him packing.

Why?

The given reason is to clear up cap space by having Los Angeles take on Camby's $10 million and lower the Nuggets burden to around $71 million, which is right around the luxury tax threshold.

Financial concerns are understandable, but in order to free up some cap in the future the Nuggets organization has essentially just told it's fans to enjoy another first round exit or more likely, missing the postseason altogether. Camby is one of the most underrated players in the league and still has plenty of rebounds and blocked shots left that I believed was going to be the cornerstone of Denver taking any extra step.

On the Clippers side of things, the frontcourt combo of Chris Kaman and Camby won't be taking the Western Conference by storm, but good luck getting a rebound. They lost Elton Brand's scoring ability, but stealing the league's leading blocker and second leading rebounder keeps LA in competition for the playoffs.

Trying to get them selves under the Salary and Crazy Cap.

As you mentioned it was done for financial reason, but still this is a head scratcher.

I think this officially puts a stake in the heart of the 'Melo/AI era in Denver. What a success that was/will be. Whatever, this team sucks now.

I guess about the only positive for a Nuggets fan is that they got out of a contract before it become a bad one.  Still, they should've gotten much more.  The exchange of 2nd round picks is almost a slap in the face to Camby.

Probably would've helped if they actually hired a coach for those two.

how does this team suck now. I remember a few weeks ago you were saying the Clips were a #4 seed. Hmmm, I dont care if you dont like the Nuggets but back up you absurd statement with some resemblance of facts. They basically run the same type of offense as GS and the Warriors are not better than Denver. The Nuggets were not gonna win a title with Camby. So maybe they can use the 10 million trade exemption and improve this team somehow. It doesnt matter until they get a coach. But losing Camby is a ok move. But it will help them get even younger.

Under the circumstances, I'm pleased with this move for the Clips. Josh Smith would be a more exciting addition, but I'll go with the assessment of ClipperBlog.com's Kevin Arnovitz's that this is "a good mid-term solution".

it is a good move for the clippers he is one of the best defenders under the basket but for the nuggets dumb move especially considering what they got back in return which is basically nothing
