Gerard Pique believes Barcelona should already start with celebratory preparations for winning the La Liga title. The Catalan defender claims Barcelona should easily reclaim their LA Liga title from archrivals Real Madrid this season.
Barcelona were granted a nine-point lead over second placed Atletico Madrid after they defeated them 4-1 on Sunday night. The victory also allowed Barcelona to boast about a 13-point victory over Real Madrid.
The Blaugrana have recorded spectacular form under new manager Tito Vilanova. The Spanish football giants remain undefeated in La Liga. A single draw has kept them from maintaining a perfect points tally. Nonetheless, it’s next to impossible to topple Barcelona from the top of the La Liga table.
“La Liga is only ours to lose,” Gerard Pique told AS. “We're in a very favorable position, but we cannot lose a game. If we relax, the danger is that we go into a run where we don't win two or three games and lose our advantage.”
“If we lose a game, nothing happens, but we cannot have a losing streak. We're having a great season. It's something else to watch my team-mates.”
Gerard Pique went on to hail his opponents, especially the Colombian hitman Radamel Falcao. The center back admitted Atletico Madrid were tough opponents and described Radamel Falcao as a “great player”.
“The first half took it out of us,” Gerard Pique said. “Adriano's goal gave us a lot. We had a very good game against a great team who are second.
“[Radamel Falcao] is a great player - he's having a great season. He runs a lot, so you have to be wary. He's very difficult on the field.”
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho confesses it’s impossible to fight with Barcelona for the La Liga title. The Portuguese gaffer mourned about another poor performance by his men after Real Madrid were held to a 2-2 draw against Espanyol.
Jose Mourinho told reporters in his post-match press conference that his side was just “not as good as before”. Well, there have been goal scoring problems and locker room issues at Real Madrid this season.
“I think winning the league is almost impossible, but we still have perform better, because if we improve in La Liga, we improve in the Champions League,” Jose Mourinho said.
“We are not as good as before. We do not have the same joy and confidence, and we struggle to score as much as last year. I have never been in this situation, but I do not lack strength.”
