Buss had been hospitalized for months undergoing cancer treatment, but lost his battle this morning.

He was one of the most influential and accomplished NBA owners, both on and off the court. His Lakers teams have won 10 NBA titles since he bought the team in 1979, an incredibly impressive achievement.

Off the court, he was a chemist, a real estate investor, and a great philanthropist.

He got his Ph.D. in physical chemistry at age 24, made millions in real estate, and went on to own 5 different LA sports teams, at one point or another.

In 2008, he donated $7.5M to USC's Department of Chemistry, where he got his Master's degree and his Ph.D.

RIP Jerry Buss, one of the better owners in NBA history.
