Lamar Odom Needs the Los Angeles Clippers

After spending only one year at University of Rhode Island, Lamar Odom was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers fourth overall in the 1999 NBA draft. His talent was undeniable as he quickly evolved into the triple threat everyone witnessed as he fully embraced the sixth man role for the back-to-back titles by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 and 2010. In his rookie year he posted averages of 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block for a Clippers squad that was one of the most exciting in the league at the time, however excitement never translated into victories.

Mandatory Credit: Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIREOdom was part of a trade deal that would have sent him to New Orleans before this season in the nixed Chris Paul trade, however, and then sought a move due to the disloyalty by the Lakers management. He was granted his wish and moved to the Dallas Mavericks for nothing more than a trade exception. However, things just managed to get worse in Dallas as he put up career lows in almost every statistical category, unable to blend in and play his game with a team he had never been with before. Struggling with his personal issues and internal battles, Lamar could not overcome adversity off the court to perform on it.

Now that he is sure to be released by the Mavericks entering a team option term in his contract, he desperately wants a return to Los Angeles, however, due to the new CBA rules, a player traded by a team must wait a full calendar year before he can potentially move back to that team, which would require Odom to wait until mid-December to sign with the Lakers. However, due to the recent emergence of the Staples Center co-tenants, Odom may feel inclined to join Chris Paul and Blake Griffin in an effort to continue the transformation of Los Angeles to a Clippers town.

There is mutual desire as the Clippers desperately require a stretch four, a power forward who can shoot from the perimeter, handle the ball and defend multiple positions, and Odom needs a return to LA to restore his sanity. Expect the Clippers and Odom to enter into a Hollywood marriage with the 'ugly' Kardashian gracing court-side seats in Staples once again next season, but for the red, white and blue.
