Lance Ball signs RFA tender to return with Broncos
Lance Ball’s 2013 salary is quite an increase from $540,000 pay check he was given for his contributions last season. However, franchise tender money doesn’t become guaranteed unless Lance Ball survives the final roster cuts ahead of the Denver Broncos’ 2013 season-opener.
The 27-year-old Lance Ball has already exceeded the expectations of a player who joined the league as an undrafted free agent out Maryland in 2008.
During his early career, Lance Ball spent time on the practice squads of St. Louis Rams, Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans before finding some consistency and digging his feet in the Denver Broncos active roster during 2009. Before signing with the Denver Broncos, Lance Ball only appeared in one regular season game for the Indianapolis Colts.
Last season, Lance Ball rushed 42 times for 1588 yards, and one touchdown, while adding seven receptions for 61 yards for the Denver Broncos. Lance Ball’s been a capable backup tailback for the Denver Broncos, appearing in first 10, then 15 and 16 games respectively in each of the past three seasons.
In 42 career games, Lace Ball has rushed 801 yards on 92 carries, while adding 27 receptions for 230 yards and two touchdowns.
With the April Draft more than two weeks away, Willis McGahee, Ronnie Hillman, Knowshon and Lance Ball appear to be the Denver Broncos’ top four tailback options. However, it’s still likely that the Denver Broncos could add another option to the mix through the draft.
