Lavezzi insists Messi could leave Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain
The rumor mill suggests Paris Saint-Germain are preparing a huge bid for Messi. The wealthy Qatari owners are certainly capable of showing such audacity, although they are well aware of the fact that Messi is strongly tied to Barcelona.
The mega-rich owners of Paris Saint-Germain have already spent more than 300 million euros on signing players. But that hasn’t stopped them from going for bigger targets. In fact Paris Saint-Germain were after Messi even last summer.
In an interview to TF1, Lavezzi said that he believed Messi’s arrival at Paris Saint-Germain wasn’t a fantasy and that the Argentina international would himself be interested in making a move to Parc des Princes.
“Why not? Anything's possible in football now, even though he's strongly identified with a team. There are times when you're tired, you want a change of scenery, so why not? It's certain a club like PSG could attract a player like Messi. The club has to see, the player too,” Lavezzi said.
“In the national team, we talk about PSG, the players watch the games. PSG has become a team watched around the world. Everyone knows we're good, that we can win the Champions League, the league or any game.”
Paris Saint-Germain appear to be doing quite well without Messi right now. The French club are leading the Ligue 1 table, are hot-favorites to win the Coupe de la Ligue final and are expected to give Chelsea a tough time in the Champions League quarterfinals.
The Ligue 1 champions are on course to improve their record from last year under manager Laurent Blanc. With each passing year the club is growing in strength.
“I think we've grown as a team. We've shared things, good moments and we know each other better. Other players have arrived, settled in very well and that's important. Day by day, we progress together and we improve,” Lavezzi added.
Lavezzi also said that Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s role up front was one of the main reasons for the team’s success. Lavezzi, who is deployed just behind the Swedish striker, admits he is happy playing behind Ibrahimovic.
