Lebron James Youngest to 10,000 Points, Attitude Afterwards Even More Impressive
2/28/08
When most professional superstars pass big milestones or are asked about individual awards and achievement they give you standard "It's not about me, it's about the team," and "I just want to win" treatment. The media leaves and they start patting themselves on the back and stare glowing into their mirror. I rarely believe them.
Last night, Lebron James set another impressive mark, becoming the youngest player to reach 10,000 points and he was genuinely upset and uninterested in any point total talk aside from crediting his team, his family and appropriately the work he's put in.
"I did it in a losing effort, I don't like that," James said. "That's not what it's about. To be in the record books in the biggest league in the world, the hard work I put in, to be the youngest guy to do that is a tribute to my game, my teammates, myself, my family. I think they should all feel good about it."Just a small cliff note on his career, but I liked that. We've got so many uninspiring, unethical, uninteresting, and selfish athletes in sports that I try to enjoy those that make watching sports fun. Lebron is one of those. He certainly has his "me" moments, but they are far less most superstars of his caliber.
I'm more impressed by the fact he's the first player to reach 10,000 points who also averaged 6.6 assists per game.
