In all honesty, it's getting to the point where I'm actually starting to believe people who say Brett Favre is going to come back and play this next season. The reason is simple, Favre continues to refuse to hand in his retirement papers, and he waffles whenever asked if he has really truly retired. Favre's own agent admitted that Favre still wants to play. And now there's even more fuel to add to the fire.
Deadspin caught word that former Packers safety Leroy Butler had been talking about how Favre wanted to return this coming season. But it gets even more bizarre.
Butler believes that the only teams Favre could come back to - that aren't Green Bay - are the ones in the same division, meaning Detroit, Minnesota, and Chicago. I can't really understand WHY Favre would go to any of those teams since Green Bay is clearly superior to all of them and he'd have to deal with massive fan backlash, but whatever. It's a fun idea.
Just the thought of Favre making his career interception record totally unreachable by playing for a year with the Lions is truly awesome. The comedy factor would be through the roof.
Butler voiced his crazy scheme not only on a radio station, but also on a TV program, which you can see here. Maybe it's all just conjecture, but maybe it isn't. But as these stories continue to pile up, they begin to gain some legitimacy.
As the saying goes, where there's smoke, there's fire. And something is definitely burning.
