About Me:
I joined this site because of my sister-in-law. This site made us friends above family even and for that I will always love FanIQ. I have found that the guys in my life have influenced my love of sports and now my interest surpasses theirs in some cases. My love of racing came from my Dad who spent a lot of his teenage years cruising and racing the streets and beach of Daytona.

Letting Go
4/8/08

So-  I am preparing to move to VA to be with my 2 year, long distance boyfriend.  I have many fears and hopes, my anxiety is of a mixed sort.  I began tonight by cleaning out my closet.  Now- lemme tell you about my closet.  It is THE ONLY one I have.  I am in an apartment that was once a house that was chopped up into 4 units.  One amenity that was overlooked is storage.  My bicycle sits in the dining room, my vacuum stands at attention there too.  But, it's ok.  I love my little place.  I've been here 5 years.  The little closet I do have is in the bedroom and features 3 pie shaped stairs that once led upstairs.  I keep some clothes in there, my fake Christmas tree, my box of ornaments, sleeping bag, back packs, luggage, and a rubbermaid storage tote with my sheets and towels.  It is about 3x4' and stacked to the ceiling.  The door has a tendency to pop open and there are bugs in there.  I don't exactly use it a lot.  SO- I opened it up tonight and began to excavate, feeling kind of like an archeologist.  I am a pack rat (as I revealed in my poll of a similar title) and found on the floor of the closet 2 twin sized bed comforters.  "Let it go, Ter!!  You have a queen size bed" and i put them on the floor of my kitchen to be donated to Goodwill.  I began to bag up clothes to donate as well.  I went to college outside of Syracuse, NY.  I have had a lifetime supply of snow.  To survive- one wears layers of clothing and when i was in school- we wore flannel shirts.  LL Bean and I were pals.  I have since lived in Atlanta the last 11 years and winters here are laughable in comparison.  Therefore, I have flannels I haven't worn since about 1996.  Among these, were 2 that my Mom had given me that had belonged to my Grandfather.  She brought them for me when he passed away.  One of them is a hideous plaid, purple that I LOVED (as purple is my favorite color), but Mom actually remarked once that it made her sad when I wore it so I made sure not to when I was home.  So tonight I took it off the hanger- the hanger marks having embedded themselves in the fabric, and I hesitated.  wow.  PaPa's flannel.  Can i give this shirt away?  I had to be stern "Let it go, Ter.  Let it go".  So I folded it up and added it to the others and tomorrow I will take it, the 2 comforters, and the Christmas tree to Goodwill.

ps.  moving kinda sucks.

Hugs to you Girlfriend!!  I'm so proud and happy for you at the same time.  I know how scary it is to take that step you're taking, but soon...it'll all be worth it.

One thing though...don't throw away Papa's flannel!!  (Ok, the Martha Stewart in me is coming out)  Take it and sew it together at the arms and the neck as it's buttoned up.  Fill it with fiber fill then sew the botttom.  You've now not only got a pillow, but two arms that Papa's own arms were in to hug you whenever you need one!!

Love ya and Good luck!!

DITTO DO NOOOOOOTTTTTT get rid of those shirts... do like she said, or put them away.. dont get rid of them.. you will make me cry.
