Little Leaguer Asks For Permission To Hit The Next Batter During Little League World Series
The Little League World Series Is Like A Bunch Of Tiny Brett Favres, Just Gunslinging And Having Fun Out There
READ MORE:

You always hear about how great it is to watch the Little League World Series, and how these kids are just out there having fun. This one, however, is not really having such a great time. He's nearing the end of his outing on the mound, and after 3 wild pitches and 2 passed balls, he would like to go crawl under a rock somewhere, based on the transcript of his conversation with his coach, which we have here courtesy of Deadspin:
COACH: "Hey, we're going to come up again."
PITCHER: "Is it okay if I just hit this batter?"
COACH: "What? No. No. Are you kidding me? ... Let's get this guy. Come on. We're still in this game. One-run game. You wanna stay in?"
PITCHER: "No."
COACH: "You wanna come out right now?"
PITCHER: "Yes, I do. Can I sit out?"
COACH: "No, you're going to first base."

Alright, so maybe "the love of the game" is the last thing on this kid's mind right now. But I can't really blame him. The moral of the story is this: It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. Don't ask your coach if it's ok to hit the next batter... just do it, and then say you're sorry.

The kid is a little baby and if the coach had a set of balls he would have sent him home.

It's painful to watch the little kids who lose, but this is a riot.  Good for him for being honest.

So the Cobra Kai branched out to Little League?

Bob Gibson feels the force is strong in this one.

People have to be taught to play to win.

So why didn't this kid want to face the batter?  What is some littler porker at the plate?

Let him pitch for the Tigers and the next time they play Boston, he has the OK from me to toss at Kevin Youkilis' melon!

I agree with that.

I wonder if he tripped the batter when he got to first base, since he couldn't hit him with a pitch?

Maybe this kid ought to spend some time with Herm Edwards. Maybe then he'd learn a valuable lesson:

"You play to win the game. Hello? You play to win the game. You don't play it to just play it. That's the great thing about sports: you play to win, and I don't care if you don't have any wins. You go play to win. When you start tellin' me it doesn't matter, then retire. Get out! 'Cause it matters!"

Obviously the kid was frustrated and disappointed. I applaud the coach for doing the right thing and taking him off the mound. It's also good to remember that these are kids, and of course they still have growing up to do. I'm sure the young man will learn and grow from this.

I have to agree. Good point.

One other part of the Jim Valvano morality play is that he had major recruiting violations at North Carolina St.  It's very sad that he passed so young, but he was no moral absolute.

THE KID SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY ANOTHER GAME IN THE SERIES AND BE SENT HOME,  I WOULD HAVE YANKED HIM OUT BY HIS EARS, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CROWD AND PEOPLE  WATCHING ON TV, AND LET THE PUNK EXPLAIN WHY. WHAT A JOKE !!!!!!

THE KID JUST LOOKED LIKE A SMART A##, AND DOES NOT DESERVE TO PLAY, HE EVEN TOLD THE COACH TO TAKE HIM OUT, WOW, I WISH HE DID THAT TO ME WHILE I WAS COACHING.

If this was the Bad News Bears in S.Wliiamsport:

PITCHER: "Is it okay if I just hit this batter?"

BUTTERMAKER: "What? No. No. Are you kidding me? ... Let's get this guy. Come on. We're still in this game. One-run game. You wanna stay in?"

PITCHER: What do you expect? All we got on this team are a bunch of j*ws, sp*cks, n*ggers, pansies, and a booger eating moron.

BUTTERMAKER: "You wanna come out right now?"

PITCHER: "Yes, I do. Can I sit out?"

BUTTERMAKER: "No, you're going to left field. R-U-U-D-Y!"

Wow! Guesss no one here has ever been a kid. Anyone watch Sportcenter recently? All the pro's hitting batters. Maybe they are just acting like their heros/rolemodels. I know parents should set the example but the bad acts of the best players are on tv all the time. How many times did we see pro players getting hit this past week? Give the kids a break...12&13 year olds under all that pressure. I can only wonder what might go through my head. Someone can tell him later that he is wrong....come down on guys that are 24 doing the same thing. I find myself constantly rooting for the team that is behind. Because they are "KIDS". I saw it live and thought what a tough job coaches of young children have.

mam, this kid was ticked off at the other players, and knew what he was saying and wanted to do. we cant continue to baby these kids, who think they can do or say whatever they want. thats why there is so much youth trouble in the world. a yank of the ears is tame, compared to what some of these kids deserve, watch the video and look at the punks demeanor.

HE DOES NOT BELONG ON THE FIELD WITH HIS DEMEANOR. NOW TELL ME WHAT YOU WOULD DO, IF YOUR SON WAS THE BATTER HE WANTED TO HIT ?? YOU WOULD BE HAPPY IF THE BOY HIT HIM AND HE ENDED UP WITH A CONCUSSION ??? I HARDLY THINK SO.. YES A LESSON IS TAUGHT, WE DO NOT PLAY LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL TO THUGS !!!!1!

It's a shame this has to be on television. Treating 12-13 year old kids like adults is absurd. I think the coach did what was right at the moment. The kid wanted out of the game, instead he was forced to finish the game. Hopefully it was a learning experience. The sad part about this is we are talking about this incident instead of some of the great baseball these kids are playing. ALL teams included. It has been great to watch and I will continue to watch. Canada v Germany and Japan v Cerveco (sorry i cant spell it right) were some of the most entertaining sporting events I have watched.

Missey relax the kid was acting out and he needed to be put in his place. What should the coach have done take him out for milk and cookies give me a break.
