Reds charismatic skipper Steven Gerrard inked a long-term deal with Liverpool earlier this year, but recent comments from the midfield maestro show desire of an away move. Apparently, Steven Gerrard has not given up on his dream of joining Real Madrid and playing under Jose Mourinho.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has been an avid fan of Steven Gerrard over the years. The Kop legend, who makes his 600th appearance for Liverpool, has been on the verge of moving into Real Madrid two times before.
Now that Real Madrid is being managed by Jose Mourinho, Steven Gerrard would need a lot of faith in Liverpool in case an opportunity to join the Galacticos comes knocking on his door. Well, Steven Gerrard has snubbed offers from Chelsea and Real Madrid before, but this time it will be different.
Jose Mourinho attempted to sign in Steven Gerrard during his tenure at Chelsea in 2004 and 2005. During those years Chelsea won two Premier League titles and a League Cup. Jose Mourinho attempted to sign in Steven Gerrard again when he became the manager of Real Madrid, but Steven Gerrard pledged loyalty to Liverpool once again.
The legendary England international Steven Gerrard admits he would like to link up with Real Madrid player Xabi Alonso, but for that he would have to move to Spain. Steven Gerrard would certainly ponder over such a move after all great players want to end their career on a high.
Steven Gerrard has won a Champions League trophy, a UEFA Cup, two FA Cups and three League Cups during his 14 years of service at Liverpool. Jose Mourinho claims he still can’t understand why the 32-year-old midfielder is under-achieving at Liverpool.
“Liverpool weren’t really challenging at the time, so there was something to think about,” Steven Gerrard said when he was questioned about interest from Jose Mourinho when he was the manager of Chelsea.
“But I ended up saying ‘no’ and a year later I said ‘no’ again. But he came back when he arrived at Real Madrid two years ago.
“I look at some players who get interest from clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona and they cause absolute wars to get out and get there.
“But that has never been me and, again, it just wasn’t going to happen.”
Such comments from Steven Gerrard will certainly ring bells at the Merseyside and put Jose Mourinho on alert. The winter transfer window is just around the corner now… just saying!
