Liverpool reignites interest in out of favor Barcelona star David Villa
Liverpool are in pursuit of David Villa once again. The Merseyside club is considering a big bid for the out of favor Barcelona striker. Liverpool attempted to sign in the Spain international during the summer transfer window, but they couldn’t finalize the transfer fees with Barcelona.
The 31-year-old striker, who is the highest goal scorer for Spain, scored only nine goals in 24 appearances for Barcelona. This was primarily because of lack of playing time in the first team. David Villa has scored eight goals in 18 appearances so far this season.
David Villa’s contract with Barcelona ends in the summer of 2014, which means Barcelona could sell him off during the upcoming January transfer window or in the summer of 2013 in order to avoid a massive depreciation in his market value.
Liverpool are seeking a cut-price deal for David Villa. Interestingly, they might get one from Barcelona as the Catalan giants plan to offload the unhappy David Villa for younger blood. Rumor has it Liverpool and Barcelona could agree upon a deal in the £12-15 million region.
David Villa moved to Camp Nou after Barcelona paid Valencia €40 million in the form of transfer fees. The Spaniard had a pretty good debut season at Barcelona. David Villa scored 23 goals and provided nine assists in 52 appearances, however, since then the striker has overshadowed by the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Cesc Fabregas, Andres Iniesta, Pedro and Lionel Messi.
Moreover, David Villa got involved in an on-pitch quandary with teammate Lionel Messi earlier in the season. In a recent interview David Villa explained that he has been unhappy at Barcelona for a while now.
“The fact that I haven't been used to playing regularly means I am less patient. But I'm ready to play and I know my leg will respond to 90 minutes,” said David Villa, who is recovering from a broken leg.
Manchester City and Chelsea are also interested in acquiring the services of David Villa. Manchester City plans on reuniting David Villa with his former Valencia teammate David Silva. On the other hand, Chelsea plans on pairing up David Villa with compatriots; Fernando Torres and Juan Mata in the attack.
