Liverpool look set to confirm their second signing of the January transfer window by bringing in Inter Milan youngster Philippe Coutinho. The Merseyside club is on the brink of announcing a £8 million deal to sign in the Brazilian wonderkid.
According to the Metro, Liverpool has thwarted all clubs interested in Philippe Coutinho after failing to seal the deal for £5 million. The 20-year-old has reportedly agreed to the contract offer from Liverpool, which means all that is left is the medical test and the official paper signing formalities.
The Brazilian attacking midfielder, who was once hailed as the “Next Kaka”, created quite a stir a couple of years back. However, the former Vasco da Gama player has failed to live up to expectations at Inter Milan, which is why the San Siro boss Andrea Stramaccioni is ready to release him at a cut-price.
Nonetheless, Philippe Coutinho is still considered to be a valuable asset with a lot of talent. Philippe Coutinho recorded a successful loan spell with Espanyol last season, where he scored five goals in 16 appearances.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has reportedly grown upset with the seemingly never ending pursuit of former Liverpool winger Tom Ince. Apparently, Blackpool seems uninterested in releasing the young English talent.
Philippe Coutinho, who was handed his Inter Milan debut by former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, was impressive upon his arrival in Italy, but has struggled to maintain form ever since.
Brendan Rodgers believes he can turn the youngster’s fate around in very little time. Liverpool need an attacking midfielder with the ability to perform as a traditional winger. The versatile forward should also have the ability to play behind the striker.
Philippe Coutinho has the skills to take up such tasks, but everything depends on how well the Brazilian settles in the English Premier League. Brendan Rodgers’ youth transfer policies have so far impressed fans and critics with the emergence of Raheem Sterling, Suso, Andre Wisdom and Martin Kelly.
Brendan Rodgers willingness to trust youth at Liverpool has led to a couple of setbacks, but the success he has attained is far greater. Therefore, Philippe Coutinho will be given plenty of on-field chances to prove himself if the Liverpool switch is confirmed.
