
Liverpool continues to negotiate a transfer agreement with Fulham for the services of United States star forward Clint Dempsey. The Reds have been after the veteran since the beginning of the transfer window.
Rife rumors suggest Liverpool is offering Fulham their winger Stewart Downing and midfielder Charlie Adam in exchange for Clint Dempsey. This deal looks to be heavily in favor of Fulham, but the new Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will surely abstain from making such a controversial deal before his maiden season at Anfield.
Reports about Martin Jol accepting a player plus cash deal for Clint Dempsey is also in the air. This means Martin Jol could sign in a Liverpool misfit and pocket some cash as well. With Clint Dempsey favoring a move for Liverpool, Fulham can do little in persuading him to stay at Craven Cottage.
Clint Dempsey didn’t travel with his team to Switzerland for Fulham’s preseason camp this week. According to reports, Clint Dempsey refused to travel in order to pressurize Fulham into accepting Liverpool’s deal.
The new Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is completely revamping the Liverpool squad. Maxi Rodriguez and Dirk Kuyt are already out of the squad. With Charlie Adam turning into a liability instead of an asset, the Scotsman is the most likely candidate for a trade.
Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers plots to raid Swansea City for their star midfielder Joe Allen. Charlie Adam came from to Liverpool from Blackpool for £7 million. Although, his price has increased Liverpool is willing let off Charlie Adam at a cut-price.
The 29-year-old United States international will be a useful addition to the Liverpool squad. Clint Dempsey will be more than just striker for Liverpool. Clint Dempsey can also feature as a winger, attacking midfielder or a second striker.
Clint Dempsey has been in immaculate form really. The US international scored 23 goals in 46 games for Fulham last season.
