Hingle-USA TODAY SportsLloyd McClendon was a candidate for the Detroit Tigers managerial position, and probably was a bit disappointed when Brad Ausmus got the job. It turns out McClendon didn't have to wait long for his next opportunity, as the Mariners have announced that they're hiring the former Tigers hitting coach as their new manager.

McClendon has been the Tigers hitting coach since 2007, and before that was the Pirates manager from 2001-2005.

With the Pirates, his record was 336-446 in those 4+ seasons. His best finish was 75-87, good for 4th in the NL Central.

We'll see how he can do with the Mariners, who have struggled lately, much like the Pirates before McClendon took over.

Something tells me Seattle will be naming a new manager either by this time next year or 2015.  Even Lou Pinella couldn't survive as manager in the Pacific Northwest with the current Mariners roster.
