Over the next week I'll be attempting to redo the last 7 NBA Drafts with the 20/20 hindsight vision afforded us today. Your help is appreciated ...What went wrong
The most disastrous result of the 2002 draft was the result of an extremely poor decision by the smartest prospect selected. The motorcycle crash of Jay Williams couldn't have possibly been predicted, but easily avoided. I still believe he'd be among the league's best point guards and was very much deserving of a top pick.
One Blue Devil who far exceeded expectations and one who was/is very much the opposite. Mike Dunleavy was drafted 3rd, while inexplicably Carlos Boozer went 35th.
This draft also marked my #1 worst pick of the last 10 years. Nickoloz Tskitishvili 5th to the Nuggets. It was obvious from Day 1 that he wasn't an NBA player.
Other disappointments and laughing stocks included - Dajaun Wagner (serious illness), Jared Jeffries, Melvin Ely and Marcus Haislip. Here's the full 2002 NBA Draft. If we could do it all over again ...
