The small forward has jumped around the last couple of years, but he played for Mike D’Antoni on the New York Knicks, and D’Antoni wants to take a look at him.

Williams comes with both physical and legal issues, after having several drug arrests and spending much of last season injured.

Under D’Antoni, Williams saw his career high averages at 7.1 points and 3.7 rebounds in roughly 20 minutes. He was a 42 percent shooter at the time, however he dropped dramatically to 28 percent in the 25 games he played in last year.

Happy Walters, Williams’ agent, said that he’s just looking for the place where he’ll get the most playing time.

The New York Post reported that he’ll likely be available for the veteran minimum of $1.4 million, which is understandably enticing to the Lakers as well.

The Knicks are also very interested in bringing Williams back and will work him out on Monday. His friendship with Amar’e Stoudemire has been cited as a reason that he may want to come back to NYC.

It’s hard to trust a lot of what D’Antoni is doing since it seems like he’s trying to re-create previous teams he had, both with coaches and players, that never won a championship.
