Los Angeles trails Houston by 2.5 games for the final playoff spot in the west.

The Los Angeles Lakers pulled within two-and-a-half games of the final playoff spot in the west after the Rockets lost a heart-breaker to the Bucks after a Monte Ellis buzzer-beater last night. Los Angeles has 24 games to try and catch either the Rockets or the Jazz—whom they trail by only three games—if they plan on making the playoffs this year.

The oddsmaker’s believe that the Lakers making the playoffs is a toss-up, and have released a few lines concerning Los Angeles’ season outcome.

(Note: Odds come from Sportsbook.ag)

Lakers Miss Playoffs: Even

Lakers Lose in 1st Round: +120

Lakers Lose in 2nd Round: +600

Lakers Lose in Conference Finals: +1000

Lakers Lose in NBA Finals: +1500

Lakers Win NBA Title: +2500

The best odds on the board are the Lakers to miss the playoffs entirely and the Lakers to lose in the first round. It is going to be awfully difficult for Los Angeles to make up three games on either the Jazz or the Rockets. Both teams simply have to keep pace with the Los Angeles and barring a monumental collapse or an extremely lengthy Lakers winning streak, both the Jazz and Rockets should be able to punch their tickets to the playoffs with ease.

The other bet that is showing excellent value is the Lakers to lose in the first round. If by some miracle the Lakers manage to make it into the playoffs, they will have to play either the Spurs or Thunder in the first round. So, if Los Angeles can sneak into the playoffs, there is no way they will get out of the first round.
