The Los Angeles Lakers announced on Friday that they were officially signing Ryan Kelly.
The team drafted Kelly this year, despite the fact that he was, and remains injured. He’s a 6’11” forward who attended Duke for four years.
According to the Lakers:
As a senior, Kelly was named ACC Player of the Week twice and earned honorable mention All-ACC honors despite missing 13 games due to injury. Kelly finished his final season with the Blue Devils averaging 12.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.6 blocked shots in 28.9 minutes.
The Lakers were hoping that Kelly would be ready in time for at least the preseason so that he could practice with the team, but it’s been reported recently that’s not likely to happen.
The terms of Kelly’s contract weren’t released, but it will be interesting to see how much of his contract, if any, is guaranteed, since the majority of the team’s are.
