Mandatory Credit: Richard Mackson-USA TODAY SportsThe Los Angeles Lakers announced that they have waived Shawne Williams. If they hadn’t by the 7th, then his veterans minimum contract would have been fully guaranteed.

It’s not too surprising considering the forward has played in 32 games this season, and started 11 of those. He averaged 5.2 points and 4.5 rebounds in 9.39 minutes. He shot 32 percent from the three, and 37 percent overall.

This move will not only save the Lakers money, but it will also allow the team to sign players to 10-day contracts, which will be valuable since they are dealing with a lot of injuries.

Also, if they’re looking to move Pau Gasol and his $19.29 million salary, then they may need to take on more than one player. This gives them room for that.
