Less than 4 months after ESPN suspended Jemele Hill for comparing rooting for the Celtics to saying Hitler was a victim, the ever-increasingly senile Lou Holtz compared Rich Rodriguez to Adolf Hitler on ESPN, and called Hitler a "great leader".While it may be true that Hitler did a masterful job in convincing tons of people to believe something that was completely despicable, ridiculous and unbelievable, there HAD to have been a better analogy in there somewhere.
In a discussion about Rich Rodriguez' failures thus far at the University of Michigan, Lou was apparently trying to make the point that it takes more than simply great leadership to achieve success.
A few message boards are all over this one, including a Michigan State forum and a Louisville forum on Scout.com.
While I think I understand what Lou was trying to say, and he may not necessarily be wrong, it's safe to say that Hitler references will never be considered socially acceptable. Yes, 60+ years IS too soon to start making analogies like this.
We'll try to grab video if it becomes available, and if you saw it, please feel free to divulge any extra details.
